Bethan Ash's quilts are classical & improvisational, she works "without a net", avoiding the use of patterns and templates of any kind. She cuts, assembles and fuses the resulting pieces into a dizzying complexity, trusting her eye and innate sense of colour.
Most of her work is non-representational. Bethan works through a sequence of layering, colour, imagery, embellishment & finally drawing on the surfaces with machine quilting.
Bethan is a visiting artist at Textile Showcase 2005 and her workshops will result in a quilt to be auctioned for Jersey Hospice.
