39 records are dated c. 1900-1910; and one record (for Anagallis tenella) states it was on ‘Foster’s side of brook’. Finch’s Walk is mentioned in Romilly’s Cambridge Diary (1848-1864) c. 1855, as named after Alderman Finch. (There is also a D’Alton record for 1962 for Hier tri) The path S from Brooklands Avenue along Hobson’s River up Empty Common was always known as Finch’s Walk, according to WD Bushell, ‘Finch’s Walk and Messrs Finch Ironmongers’, Cambridge Public Library Record, vol.6, No 23, June 1934.
