APRIL 2002

Last Meeting
At our last meeting the attendance was a little low, perhaps because of the changed date. We were however well entertained by Mike Stentiford with a selection of slides concerning his trip to the Falkland Islands. Two of our number had previously seen and heard this presentation at a W.I. meeting but still came along for a second viewing/hearing, proof indeed of the excellent manner in which Mike entertains and also educates his audience.
Parkinson's Books
We currently have four books about Parkinson’s, which members may borrow by contacting Roger on 731145. These are:-
Living with Parkinson's by Lesley Cross
The Parkinson's Handbook by Dwight C. McGoon M.D.
Parkinson's Disease by Dr Harvey Sagar
Parkinson's at Your Fingertips by Marie Oxtoby & Adrian Williams
In the past Marian has lent out books which have not been returned, so please consider if you have a book which has never been given back.
Choir Members Needed
Joyce is a member of Helvetia Ladies Choir and several members have left recently so that the choir is now in need of new blood. If you are interested or have a friend, daughter or perhaps daughter-in-law who might be interested please give Joyce a call on 731145 or Liz Bird on 731674. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings between 7.30 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. at Hautlieu School. The choir incidentally is available to sing at weddings and private functions etc.
Playful Pool Session
On 21st March the intended petanque session at L'Auberge du Nord was rained off but instead members made the best of it and took over the games room and almost everyone joined in with a game of pool. Nobody knew the rules and it was amazing that the green baize remained intact, together with the cue tips. The object was to pot the yellow and red balls using the white ball, leaving the one black ball to last, but in the event the white ball was potted with great regularity and even the black ball sometimes early in each game! We had no budding Steve Davis type players but as can be seen by the photographs below everyone had a good time and the food was excellent.
14th – 17th March 2002/Eisteddfod catering
Profit from sale of refreshments totalled £750.00
Eileen cannot find the words to express her deepest gratitude to everyone involved at the RJA + HS venue. She was extremely touched by those of you who rallied round in her hour of panic on the Saturday afternoon as the sheer volume of customers sent us all into overdrive. "Thank you" seems so insignificant but it comes from the bottom of her heart! (And she's all heart and all bottom as well) Editor's note – we
all owe a debt of gratitude to Eileen for her considerable efforts in organising everything)
19th March 2002/Raffle PDS Meeting Tickets sold totalled £20.00
Card sales for March 2002 amounted to £57.32

Awareness Week
To mark Awareness Week we are producing a pamphlet about the activities of Jersey Branch. It includes five photographs of our activities and we are proud of this new publication and grateful for the help we have received in the design from an anonymous supporter and for help with the funding.
Good luck to Peter Hobson and his team of helpers with the supermarket collections on Tuesday 9th April and Friday 12th April.
We have also launched a website which you can find at WWW.MNLG.COM. Any suggestions on useful additions to it will be gratefully received.
Next meeting
Our next meeting will be at 8 p.m at Communicare, St. Brelade as usual, but please note the early date of Tuesday 9th April. This is so that it falls during Awareness Week and when our Area Representative, Sheila Windsor, is in the island. We hope to get Sheila on Radio Jersey to talk about the Society and our branch during Awareness Week and she will also attend a branch committee meeting on Monday 8th April. There will be the chance to ask questions about the Society and other P.D. matters so do come along
