Our Scrabble afternoon last month was a great success. Those who attended were keen players armed with dictionaries, egg timers and a list of acceptable two and three letter words, the cunning players placing the high value tiles on the triple letter or word squares. Afternoon tea followed and we had a raffle as well.
At our evening meeting we were delighted to welcome Bob Kerley who is the Superintendant Registrar. He has worked at the Registry Office for 12 years having been superintendant of the Hong Kong police for 24 years previously.
He gave a very interesting and amusing talk about the odd and funny (ha! ha!) things that have happened at weddings. He also spoke of all the records held at the Registry Office for people tracing their family tree to the monies generated by making Jersey a wedding isle, as well as the laws about registrars and clergy. His relaxed manner made it a most enjoyable evening all round. Refreshments followed and we had our usual raffle.

Three Coins in the Fountain?
We were certainly blessed by the public's generosity from 24th March to 13th April 2006 when £240.00 was collected in the fountain in the Central Market.
Our thanks go to the Market's administrator for all his help.
New locations are always being sought for our boxes and we thank Jack Schofield for placing one box during June.
Please contact June Tredant on 861744 if you have any ideas.
It would be appreciated if Sarah Kean could be contacted direct on her mobile phone No: 07797 735121 and not at Neurocare thank you.
Are There any Fish Out There?
If there are, Jack Schofield would like to know where you are hiding!!
Our first attempt at St. Catherine's on May 22nd was postponed due to the blustery condition, but we had lunch at St. Catherine's Cafe instead and our second jaunt on June 20th, nothing was caught at all, nevertheless we had our picnic lunch and the afternoon was rounded off with afternoon tea at St. Catherine's Cafe. Thank you to Jack for all his efforts, trying to give our members a good time. We appreciate all the hard work he puts in behind the scenes preparing rods and tackle to loan out. We're ever hopeful that he'll catch a fish one of these days!

Party for Parkinson's
Eileen Smith will be hosting a Pampered Chef Kitchen Show and tea party at Bisley, Westbourne Avenue, Bagatelle Lane, St. Saviour on Tuesday August 1st 2006 at 3.15 p.m. Kate Curwood who is Marian Pitt's daughter will be doing the baking and Parkinson's will receive a commission on sales of kitchen utensils and accessories. There will also be a raffle. Please do come and support this fundraiser. Phone Eileen on 737128 and say yes.
We next meet at Communicare, St. Brelade on Tuesday July 25th, 2006 at 8 p.m when Eileen will host a "Deal or No Deal" type game show.
This is the "in" game show on telly at the moment presented by Noel Edmonds and to give you some idea of how it works I suggest you tune in to Channel 4 at 4.15 p.m. any weekday afternoon. Pam Turner will be our banker and Jack Schofield will be the contestant.
Our afternoon meeting this month takes place in the Resources Room at Overdale, Westmount on Thursday July 27th, 2006 at 2 p.m. when our speaker will be Margot Whiting.
Margot and her late husband were acrobats on the London stage many years ago. She has lots of photographs taken with famous celebrities. She is a very amusing storyteller and I am sure there will be lots of laughter that afternoon. Transport can be arranged for these meetings. Please phone Eileen on 737128.
Communicare is closed during August, but for the very first time we will be sending out a newsletter in August. We will be having an afternoon meeting at Overdale and an outing is planned for the Tuesday evening that we would normally be at Communicare.
