JUNE 2006

Last Meeting
At Communicare last month, Mr David Le Maistre showed over a hundred slides of old Jersey postcards dating back to the 1890's. He asked us to imagine we were visitors arriving for the first time to beautiful Jersey. It was interesting to see horses and carriages at the pier awaiting passenger disembarkation from the mailboat. Apparently in those days caves were of particular interest and it was comical to see ladies with long skirts, hats and parasols descending ladders at Grosnez, Plemont and Devil's Hole.
Postcards even in those days were of bays, churches and of course the Jersey cow. It was a very interesting collection and a very enjoyable talk. Refreshments followed with our usual raffle. Our first afternoon meeting at Overdale was a very light-hearted gathering and Marian and Eileen were delighted to welcome members who we had not seen for many months.
The Blockbuster type quiz was fun with Marian giving lots of clues to the questions. Louise's Lovelies scored 411/2 points, pipping Mary's Marvels to the post by just one point, followed by Valma's Violets and Joyce's Jewels. Tea and biscuits followed and a raffle had been organised as well. It was felt that the informality of it all and the relaxed atmosphere made it a jolly afternoon out. We look forward to welcoming new members over the coming months.

Group Holiday
The branch has recently funded a very enjoyable week's holiday in Southampton for six sufferers and five carers, together with the help and company of two paying supporters.
We visited Winchester, Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu. There was a visit to the theatre, ten pin bowling and bingo. In the evenings a quiz, beetledrive and horse racing were organised. There was plenty free time for shopping as well. I think the only complaint was that we always seemed to be eating!
It was a wonderful time for everyone and maybe some of our newer members would consider coming away with us on our next trip.
Party for Parkinson's
The first of our fundraising parties is to be a beetledrive and Bar-B-Q organised by Marguerite and John Davey on Sunday July 16th 2006 at their home "Freshwinds" Rue de la Grosse Epine, St. Mary starting at 2 p.m. Tickets will cost £5 towards branch funds and you are asked to bring your own wine. Eileen will be organising a raffle also. I am sure this will be a wonderful afternoon with plenty chatting and laughing. To book, please phone Eileen on 737128. You are welcome to come just for the Bar-B-Q if you are not game enough to join in the beetledrive.

Next meetings
We next meet in the Resources Room at Overdale this coming Thursday afternoon, June 22nd, 2006 at 2 p.m. for an afternoon of Scrabble. You will play in pairs, and will have someone who will help with placing the tiles on the board, and who is good at crosswords and au fait with the scoring. Afternoon tea will follow with scones, jam and cream, and there will be a raffle. Everyone will be most welcome to join us.
Our evening meeting this month is at Communicare, St. Brelade as usual and is on Tuesday 27th June, 2006 at 8 p.m when our speaker will be Mr Kerley, who is the Superintendent Registrar, and he will be giving us an insight to his job at the Registry Office.
