MARCH 2004

Last Meeting
Last month we welcomed Jill Fa as our speaker. Jill, who is a dietician based at the General Hospital, talked about healthy eating, a balanced diet and foods containing fibre which will help relieve constipation, a common problem with PD sufferers. She distributed booklets on "Dietary advice for Parkinson’s Disease" and Eileen has copies for anyone who would like one. Jill works closely with out team at Neurocare and if you need any help or advice with your diet please contact Suki Douglas on 623077 who may be able to arrange a referral.
Fundraising

Awareness Week
Parkinson's Awareness Week this year is from 18th to 25th April. Keep an eye out for media coverage etc. etc.
Co-op Collections
We have once again been given permission to rattle our collecting tins at the Co-op as follows:-
Saturday 17th April, 2004 at the Co-op, Grand Marché in town between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Tuesday 20th April at the Co-op, St. Peter between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m..
If you can help, even if it is only for an hour, please phone Eileen on 737128. We need your help!

Holidays for sufferers
Once again we are planning to take a party to the UK for 4/5 days. This break is offered to

 sufferers free of charge and an accompanying carer will be asked to contribute towards travelling costs.
The committee has not yet finalised the details but we are expecting to go away during the middle of May, and we will base ourselves in Southampton. If you would be interested in joining us please contact June Tredant by the 7th April 2004. Tel no. 861744. We are also offering weekend breaks in Guernsey for sufferers who would prefer to go away just with their carer, and for people who are unable to travel a few days break at Maison des Landes, St. Ouen can be arranged. If you are interested in either of these please contact Eileen Smith on 737128 as soon as possible.

Letter from Devon
Kate Beigent's mother suffers from Parkinson’s. She lives in Devon and belongs to a branch in her area. Please find enclosed a copy of a letter from a sufferer which was included in her monthly magazine, which she would like to share with us.
Social Get-Togethers
Eileen will be organising lunch and bowls on Friday 23rd April, 2004. Lunch will be at 12 o'clock at the Goose on the Green and bowling will commence at 2 p.m at Jersey Bowl. Sufferers and carers will be asked to contribute £2 towards branch admin costs and paying supporters are welcome to join us. Phone Eileen on 737128 by 17th April.
Next meeting
Our next meeting is at Communicare at 8 p.m. on Tuesday 23rd March, 2004 Our speaker will be Frazer Martin from BBC Radio Jersey who will be sharing some of his experiences as a broadcaster with us. You will be made very welcome and we look forward to seeing some of our newer members.
