MARCH 2005

Last Meeting
Last month we were joined by Mr. Fred De La Perrelle who was a crew member on the Jersey Clipper 2003. He gave us an account of his experiences and also showed slides about this yacht race which was a trip of a lifetime for him. He joined the race at Equador and sailed 4,000 miles to New York, New York to Halifax Nova Scotia, all the way down to Jersey, then from Jersey to Bristol and finally on to Liverpool. The watches were four hours on, four hours off and everyone helped with all the duties as the boat had to be kept clean and in tip top condition to face some of the gruelling sea conditions. At other times there was no wind at all and progress was very frustrating. He will always have wonderful memories of team spirit, and what he achieved sailing wise. The evening finished with Eileen reading an ode about "An Escaped Prisoner", our normal raffle and refreshments.

Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Week 2005
National Awareness Week this year is from 11th - 17th April.
We have joined forces with Guernsey Branch and will be advertising on Channel Television. Three ten second adverts will be broadcast every day for the whole week. We are targeting Parkinson’s sufferers who have not made contact with the branch. Sadly there are many sufferers on the island who do not wish to become members. Whilst we respect their decision, for whatever reason, we are unable to offer them help and friendship and it is our aim to remedy this. If you know of anyone who has Parkinson’s, and hasn't made contact with us, now is the time to encourage them to join!! Phone Eileen Smith on 737128 if you need information sheets or leaflets. We will be selling tulip lapel pins for £1. If you would like some, please phone June Tredant on 861744. We hope to have our usual can shakes at the Co-op. Details are not yet finalised, but if you can rattle a can for us, for a couple of hours please phone Eileen Smith on 737128.
With reference to the "Party for Parkinson’s", Jack Schofield is inviting friends round for lunch, Marguerite Davey is going to organise a card party, Eileen Smith will be showing the video "Ladies in Lavender" with afternoon tea, and Graham and June Tredant and daughter Lynda will be hosting a garden party in June.
We hope to have the usual media and radio coverage sometime during April
.
