Last Meetings
At our evening meeting last month, antique dealer, Peter Le Rossignol, showed slides of jewellery, porcelain, pictures, clothes and French interiors dating back to the 18th century. His knowledge and love of antiques made this a most enjoyable and entertaining evening.
Melissa Lombard a speech and language therapist was our speaker at our afternoon meeting. Melissa gave an informative presentation on thickening agents for drinks and we were invited in small groups, to mix varying consistencies and to taste different flavours of the products available. If you have trouble swallowing, and would like a referral, Melissa is based at Overdale, and can be contacted there for an appointment. Refreshments followed at both meetings as well as our usual raffle.

Collecting Boxes
Four boxes were placed last month, three by Pat Le Herissier and one by Jack Schofield. Well done and thank you to them. Please contact June Tredant on 861744 if you have any ideas regarding new placements. The general public are very generous when it comes to supporting local charities and any money that goes into our collecting boxes is money we do not have to work for. Please please make an effort to place one box for us to help you.
Pain Free Fundraising
We still have a small selection of unused gummed postage stamps to sell, of various denominations and with Christmas fast approaching we hope to sell them all. The total value is £22.14 and the high value stamps would be ideal for Christmas parcels or calenders sent as presents. For example we have 50p, £1, £2 & £5 stamps which you could put onto parcels at the post office and then top up with an extra stamp or two bought at the post office if needed. If you wish we could sell you all lower value stamps which could be used  for local mail (34p) or UK mail (37p). This takes very little trouble and it would cost you nothing to help raise funds for the branch. Contact Roger Marriott on 731145 or Eileen Smith on 737128 and we will probably be able to deliver some to you in lots of say around £3, £4 or £5 or more. Please help your branch to help you
Carers on the Mend
Three carers have recently been in hospital but are now back home and in better shape. We wish them a speedy and complete recovery. Mary Le Vesconte has had a hip replacement, Eileen Palmer has had a shoulder replacement and Ray Le Vannais has had a pace maker fitted. Get well soon, we've missed seeing you.
Calling All Carers
Are you actively looking after a relative suffering from Parkinson's Disease?
Do you need to talk to a fellow carer to learn about the illness? Do you need emotional support? If the answer to any of the questions is yes, you can become a member of our branch. Whilst our aim is to help all sufferers of PD, we also strive to take care of carers as well. Help is only a phone call away, contact our liaison officer, Marian Pitt on 721927. She will try to answer any questions you might have, and let you know what is going on within the branch, and what support we can offer
 Cards for Good Causes
The multi-charity Christmas card shop is now open at St. Helier Parish Church until December 20th, Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Parkinson's UK Christmas cards are available, and we thank Nancy Le Brun for giving of her time once a week to be a cashier.
Christmas Crafts Fayre
This year the Christmas Fayre takes place at the Living Legend on Saturday and Sunday, November 25th and 26th 2006 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day. A raffle is being organised the proceeds to be donated equally to The Parkinson's Disease Society, Jersey Hospice and Help A Jersey Child. Tickets are £1.00 each and can be obtained from Eileen Smith. We will again be selling Christmas cards for Jersey branch and the stall will be on a rota basis on both days and if any of you could spare a couple of hours during the weekend Eileen will be very pleased to hear from you on 737128. Could you please display the enclosed poster.
Christmas Lunch
Our Christmas get together this year will take place at Les Ormes Leisure Centre, Mont-a-La Brune, St. Brelade on Sunday 10th December 2006 at 12.30 p.m. for 1 p.m. As in previous years, the lunch for sufferers and carers who are members of the branch will be paid for by the Society, but we would ask you to pay for your own drinks and wine. Member supporters are welcome to join us at a cost of £15.00 per head, and we will ask you to settle your own drinks bill as well. Names are being taken by Ken and Marg Le Quesne, tel 854769. A menu is enclosed, as we need to pre-book the food, so please give your choice of food to Ken or Marg when you put your names down. There is a lift, so wheelchair access is not a problem, and we will be having a private room to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Eileen and the committee look forward to seeing and welcoming as many of you as possible on that day.
Table to Give Away
Lorraine Le Rossignol is disposing of an hexagonal glass top table with chrome criss-cross legs which folds flat and has two matching chairs. Free to anyone willing to collect. Phone Lor on 481526.

Next meetings
Our afternoon meeting takes place first this month on Thursday November 23rd 2006 in the Resources Room at Overdale at 2.30 p.m. (Some of you feel that 2 p.m. is a little soon after lunch, and others feel there isn't time for a snooze! Ha. Ha.)
Eileen Smith will be organising a team quiz with written answers on a variety of subjects. Everyone is very welcome to join in what is usually a fun time together. Refreshments will be served and we will have our usual raffle.
Our evening meeting at Communicare, St. Brelade is on Tuesday 28th November 2006 at 8 p.m. Eileen and the committee invite you to a discussion meeting about Jersey branch, what you expect us to provide and organise for you. Whether or not you want afternoon and evening meetings next year, or if you would sooner a monthly lunch. We would also like your comments and criticisms if you feel we are no longer in touch with your needs. We are here to help you and can only do that if you let us know what you really expect from your branch and committee. Sherry and mince pies will help the evening along and tea/coffee will be served at the end of the evening. We will have our usual raffle.
As we do not have a December meeting, Eileen and the committee would like to wish you all the compliments of the season, and hope you have a lovely Christmas with family and friends.
