| A change of format
this month folks, in Roger's absence, Eileen is the editor of this
newsletter letting you know what's been happening over the last month
and of forthcoming events.
At our meeting last month we welcomed Rose Helie as our speaker. Rose,
who was accompanied by her husband, spoke to us about their trips
to Europe for Mustard Seed. This is the charity which was set up in
Jersey by Rose to deliver aid to Eastern European countries, with
perhaps the most popular effort being the "shoe box" appeal
when adults and children prepare and fill shoe boxes with toys and
gifts for underprivileged children for Christmas. This is often the
only gift these children will receive and their delight is very heart-warming
for Rose and Phil and their team of fellow volunteers, who drive by
lorry to Romania and other countries with beds, clothes, blankets,
bikes and all manner of other things donated by the people of Jersey.
After Rose's interesting talk a collection was made towards their
work and members gave generously.
Another busy month, the following monies being raised:-
13.9.03 Pitch/Corbiere Car Boot Sale. Goods sold totalled £52.10
23.9.03 Raffle/Communicare. Tickets bought totalled £26.00
27.9.03 Smartie Appeal. Donation received £14.60
27.9.03 Coffee Morning/Margaret Baker's total £748.86
Bring & Buy stall £148.95
Coffee sales etc £ 97.55
Card sales £336.36
Thank you to everyone who donated goods & cakes to sell and raffle
prizes and to those who helped on the day. On behalf of the Society,
Eileen wishes to express our grateful thanks to Margaret Baker for
inviting us into her home once again this year.
Card sales for September 2003 amounted to £36.65
3.10.03 Bingo Night/Devil's Hole. 76 supporters raised £219.75
11.10.03 Pitch/St. Mary's Community Centre. Goods sold £80.75
If anyone can make use of a Stannah Stair Lift we have heard from
Rose Helie that she has one available free of charge, except that
she would appreciate a small donation to Mustard Seed. If you would
like to take up this rare offer please telephone Rose direct on 482637.
If you do follow this up please let Roger or Eileen know so that we
do not offer it elsewhere..
