Very suddenly, and quite unexpectedly Alan passed away on the 8th September 2005. On behalf of you all, Marian would like to express your heartfelt sympathy to Eileen, Hedley and Estelle, Alan's daughter Mandy, and her family.
Alan was a committee member for about ten years. He worked side by side with Eileen in the early years of fundraising, and his signwriting skills made for excellent banners, boards and posters. His passion for photography means that we have many photos of fundraising events and social get-togethers to look back on.
Eileen would like to thank you all for your prayers and support at this sad time.
July now seems an age away, but that was when we last met, when Eileen Smith organised a silent auction to raise sponsorship towards Lynda Robert's Namibia Walk Africa Challenge next year. £105.00 was raised ranging from £1.00 for a box of Hermesetas to £2.25 for a bottle of Fairy Liquid to £9.00 for a bottle of Champagne. Everyone enjoyed the fun of outbidding someone else and there was plenty time to chat and drink tea and coffee. Eileen would like to thank everyone who brought toiletries etc. on the night. These have been used for prizes at a recent bowls session and beetledrive.
Our normal raffle rounded off the evening nicely.

Fishing/The Tiddler that Didn't Get Away
On the 15th July 2005, Jack Schofield organised a fishing competition and picnic at St. Catherine's Breakwater where seven of our members fished and about five or six came to give encouragement and have a chat and a bite to eat. Prize money was for the most fish caught, the heaviest catch and for the smallest fish caught. Well the poor specimen of a fish which was reeled up on Eileen's rod didn't even register on the scales, nevertheless it swept the board whilst our so called experienced fishermen didn't catch a thing, and if that wasn't enough a shoal of mullet was basking in the sun about 50 yards out of reach of our lines just laughing at us.
Jack is to be congratulated for organising the event, bringing rods etc. for everyone to use and Mr Jan Huet has been thanked for all his hard work behind the scenes and on the day, ensuring that we all had a most pleasurable day out. Thank you also to everybody who contributed towards the picnic.
Two boxes were placed by Eileen Smith in July bringing the total boxes distributed around the island to 80. If you can think of any business that would be willing to place one of our boxes at their cash desk please phone June Tredant on 861744.
That "C" word is looming, and the Webb Ivory Christmas catalogue will have been delivered with this newsletter. Please pass it amongst family, friends and neighbours for orders. Jersey Branch receives approximately 42 pence for every £1 sold and on the volume of orders this catalogue generates, it is a tidy sum.
The current fashion craze is charity wristbands. Head office have produced pink and blue ones for Parkinson's which we are selling for £1 each.

Coffee Morning/Christmas Card Sale
Our annual coffee morning is being held this year at St. Matthew's Glass Church Hall Millbrook on Saturday, October 15th 2005, from 10 - 12.30 p.m. Invitations and posters are enclosed for you to distribute and display please. Namibia Walk Africa Challenge 2006
Just over £1,000 in sponsorship has already been raised for Lynda Robert's trek next year. The specified amount required by Head Office is £1,700 and after that Lynda's travel costs and entry fees are £1,050 of which she has forwarded £299 registration herself.
