Triptych - Estuary

This was designed and constructed for the Liverpool Women's Hospital and is installed on the main ground floor corridor. Click a picture or here to see the piece full screen.

The main panel is 3 metres long and nearly a metre high. The dimensions were chosen to create a sense of distance and space, the minimal colours contributing to a sense of calm.

The two side panels, in contrast, are smaller, brighter and crammed with the movement of wheeling birds in flight in one and teeming shoals of fish in the other.

This is a good example of the use of lighting to enhance the work. This slim line light box was custom made to look unobtrusive in spite of its size. It was further designed to contain the commissioned textile without using a frame which would have rendered it clumsy and heavy.
